What is copywriting? And why is it a hot topic in many business circles? Do you need a copywriter? Can copywriting help you make more profit? Is your business hurting because you don’t know how to write copy? In this article, we’ll answer all those questions right here at The Copy Cartel

Copywriting is one of the most lucrative skills any person can possess.

Don’t believe me…

Just ask Forbes

With any high-income skill, you can freelance, supercharge your career, or catapult your business to the next level — without getting in debt or investing significant capital. Copywriting is one of the most profitable of these skills.”

Copywriting can convert everything from emails to landing pages to video scripts into powerful sales machines.

And it’s been said those that can master this skill can literally write their own paycheck for whatever they want to make.

That’s the power of copywriting!

What is copywriting?

Well, I’ll tell you what it’s not first.

It’s not about legal trademarks or protecting one’s creative works or inventions. That is a copyright, which is totally different.

Copywriting is the process of writing persuasive marketing and promotional materials that motivate people to take some form of action. This can be a purchase, donations to a cause, or scheduling a consultation according to the American Writers & Artists Institute

Copywriting is everywhere!

It’s on your TV, website, ads, and even landing pages.

Now, I know what you may be thinking.

Well, if that’s copywriting, it sounds like I got it covered.

I already do that stuff.

Well, yes…

But the truth is you may be terrible at it and you don’t even know why.

Do you talk about yourself on your website more than you talk about what you can do for your prospects?

Do you list a whole bunch of features for your products and services without telling the customers how it benefits them?

Are you addressing a large number of customers at one time in a formal business like tone?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you desperately need help!

And it’s ok…

Most people and business owners start that way. That’s why they take courses to help them improve their copywriting skills or they hire a professional copywriter.

Just a few copy tweaks can increase your response by 10%, 20%, or even 150% which could increase your profit margins so you make more money.

The filthy Rich copywriter

What is a copywriter?

A copywriter is a professional writer who specializes in writing marketing and promotional materials with the purpose of getting a response.

Copywriting can take a few months to learn but years and or decades to master.

Copywriting is quite different from normal writing.

Good copy often addresses a specific audience with a specific problem that you can solve.

It’s also assembled in a way that’s 1 to 1 instead of 1 to many.

For example instead of saying, “we can help our customers achieve the image they want,” a decent copywriter may say, “we can help you achieve the picture perfect figure you’ve been dreaming about which will give you the confidence you’ve always wanted.”

Copywriters also create a unique selling proposition (USP) for your product or service to differentiate your product or service from the crowd and let people know why they should buy from you.

Check out this clip from mad men when Don Draper crafting a USP right here:

Wasn’t that masterful?

This is just one of many reasons why you should hire a copywriter to help improve your marketing and promotions.

Good copy can greatly increase your earning potential and help you optimize your creatives.

Why Your Business Needs Copywriting

Honestly, think about it. Depending on your business, you have a product or service that needs to be brought to the market.

Aside from getting to the market, there’s the research and development you put into your service or product as. You probably have to:

  • Hire employees
  • Get an LLC or corporation license
  • Keep track of expenses
  • Check inventory

On top of that, your market needs to know that you exist in the first place. And the only way to exist in the market is through effective and strategic communication.

And some businesses require a lot of specialized communication through content. For example, let’s say you run an insurance company. You’ll probably need content such as:

  • TV ads (scripts)
  • radio ads
  • online ads (Google Ad, facebook ads, etc)
  • blog posts
  • brochures (B2C, B2B, etc.)
  • employee handbooks
  • sales scripts
  • social media updates (Facebook, Google, etc)
  • website pages (landing pages, homepages, about pages, etc,)
  • white papers

And that’s probably just content for just one of your products or services.

I don’t know about you…

But that’s a lot of content that has to get pumped out and convert your market. You need to delegate some of those business processes.

That’s where copywriters come in because they can effectively communicate with your audience and get them to act.

And because they focus on the customer’s needs and how your business can solve their problems they are often more effective than your typical corporate speak.

That’s the sole job of a copywriter.

They will help you sell and make more money because they know how to tap into the desires of your audience or market. More importantly, they leave them feeling satisfied with the value your business provides.

My good friend Barry Brown, who’s worked for Agora and freelanced for financial businesses made $7,000 in an hour by launching and creating the Big Energy Profits newsletter which sells high-ticket services.

As a result, that client makes an additional six-figures in revenue.

Now which small business wouldn’t trade $7,000 for an additional six-figures in revenue?

How can you find a good copywriter?

Now that you know how important copy can be for your business how do you find a good one?

Well, you can ask around or look for people on sites like Upwork, Fiverr, or networking groups.

You may find someone good and you might not.

But hey, since you’re here, you can reach out to us at The Copy Cartel and we can set you up with Barry, one of our expert copywriters.

Till next time

Cheers M8!
